Why won't my .opus file upload?

The tool accepts files with the .ogg extension. Files saved as .opus, which is how WhatsApp stores voice notes, are not accepted yet. For WhatsApp voice notes, forward them to the Audionotes WhatsApp bot instead.

Is this audio transcription tool free to use?

Yes. The tool on this page is free with no signup for one transcription per day, for files up to 15 minutes and 100 MB, and your file and transcript are deleted after 24 hours unless you save them. In the Audionotes app, the free plan covers 1-minute voice recordings and unlimited text notes; longer uploads need Pro. See Plans & Pricing.

Are there limits on file size, length, or uploads?

File size (Pro plan): Up to 500 MB for media and 20 MB for images. Number of uploads: Unlimited. File and image uploads are a Pro feature; the free plan includes unlimited text notes and 1-minute voice recordings.

Can I record audio directly in my browser?

Yes. The tool on this page can record from your microphone instead of taking a file. For a call in a browser tab, such as Google Meet, the Audionotes Chrome extension records the tab audio together with your mic, with no bot joining the call.

Can I transcribe only specific sections of an audio file?

No. Audionotes always transcribes the entire file.

OGG with Vorbis or Opus inside

OGG is a container. Inside you will usually find Vorbis, common in open-source and Linux recorders, or Opus, which is built for speech and used by many voice messaging and Android recorder apps. Because Opus is so efficient, a 15-minute voice recording is only a few MB, far below the 100 MB limit, so the 15-minute cap is the one that matters. Files with a .opus extension, which is how WhatsApp saves voice notes, are not accepted yet; for those, see the WhatsApp page.
